Structure of Carnelian
Carnelian is composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and is a banded, transparent to translucent, red to reddish-brown or even orange variety of Chalcedony, a special type of quartz known for its tight microcrystalline structure. It has a hardness of 7.
